Rumor: Apple Preparing $299 iPad With A6 Processor

Taiwanese publication Digitimes is reporting again today that Apple is planning two iPad models, with the low-end version starting at only $299. Both iPads will reportedly boast the new A6 processor and will be differentiated by their screen resolutions.

Sources from Apple’s supply chain have claimed that there will be two versions of the new iPad, one targeting the high-end segment and the other the mid-range. Digitimes Research believe the two new iPad models will both be equipped the A6 processor with high-end model coming with a high resolution panel (2048×1536) and the mid-tier model featuring the same grade of panel as iPad 2 (1024×768).
In my opinion, it makes more sense for Apple to drop the price of the current iPad 2 to $299 and introduce the next-generation model at $499. The idea of Apple releasing two new iPads at once seems a little ridiculous.

iPhone 4S and iPad 2 Untethered Jailbreak to Be Released Next Week

Great news for potential iPhone 4S and iPad 2 jailbreakers. Infamous hacker pod2g confirmed a few hours ago that significant progress has been made on the jailbreak, and we should except it in a week if all goes well.
As you already are aware of, the untethered jailbreak for A4 devices, iPod touch, iPhone 4, etc. was released last week to much fanfare.
Now the only thing left to do is release an A5 (iPad 2, and iPhone 4S) jailbreak for the full enchilada…
I made a step today for the A5. With some luck we could expect a release in a week.
pod2g has been an amazing force in the jailbreak community, and this solidifies him as one of the most valuable members the community has seen thus far. Recently it was noted that he handed off the development of the A4 jailbreak to work more exclusively on the difficult A5 jailbreak.
It seems like it’s been forever since we had the first iPad 2 jailbreak, but a solution is literally right around the corner.
Stay tuned for more updates. Are you ready to finally have Cydia on your iPhone 4S? What about you iPad 2 users? What will you do to celebrate when it finally arrives?

iPhone 4S and Nokia Lumia 800 Browser Performance Benchmarked

Geeks really like benchmarks – they’re one of the best ways to compare hardware speeds, and things are no different in the world of the smartphone.
With the aim of comparing the iPhone 4, iPhone 4S and Nokia’s Windows Phone 7-powered Lumia 800, YouTube user 359gsm set about running a selection of web-based benchmarks to see just which of the three phones is the quickest when it comes to rendering web pages.
The iPhone 4S did particularly well in the tests, with the older iPhone 4 more than holding its own, too…
Comparing the iPhone’s Mobile Safari with Windows Phone 7′s Internet Explorer Mobile will always raise a few eyebrows, especially with Microsoft making so much noise about its own offering. Interestingly, when the video shows all three devices running Microsoft’s own “speed reading” test, the iPhone 4S is the clear winner.
The reason this is so interesting is that Microsoft used the iPhone 4 as a comparison to Windows Phone 7 not that long ago, showing how much faster Internet Explorer was than Safari. Well, it seems someone at Apple saw the comparison too, and the iPhone 4S more than makes up for the iPhone 4′s lackluster performance!

Check out the full results below, and remember that the iPhone 4 is running iOS 4.3 while the iPhone 4S is using the 5.0 version of iOS. No, we’ve no idea why they decided not to upgrade the iPhone 4, either!

“Browsermark Test: Higher is better
iPhone 4 (iOS 4.3) – 37 503
Nokia Lumia 800 (WP7.5 aka Mango) – 30 452
iPhone 4S (iOS 5) – 86 702

Speed Reading Test:
iPhone 4 (iOS 4.3) – 2 fps (iPhone 4 with iOS 5.0 – around 37 fps)
Nokia Lumia 800 (WP7.5 aka Mango) – 40 fps
iPhone 4S (iOS 5) – 60 fps

Sunspider Test: Lower is better
iPhone 4 (iOS 4.3) – 4018.2 ms
Nokia Lumia 800 (WP7.5 aka Mango) – 7188.7 ms
iPhone 4S (iOS 5) – 2266 ms

Acid3 Test:
iPhone 4 (iOS 4.3) – 100/100
Nokia Lumia 800 (WP7.5 aka Mango) – 100/100
iPhone 4S (iOS 5) – 100/100

HTML5 Test:
iPhone 4 (iOS 4.3) – 210
Nokia Lumia 800 (WP7.5 aka Mango) – 141
iPhone 4S (iOS 5) – 296″

There’s life in the iPhone 4 yet!

2012NewYear Fireworks on World’s Tallest Building

As if being the tallest building in the world isn't already impressive enough, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai put on one of the most amazing fireworks displays I've ever seen to ring in the new year.
Instead of just surrounding the building with giant colorful explosions, the Burj Khalifa itself was turned into a 2,723 foot tall launch pad. And it packed enough firepower for a five and a half minute display of pure eye candy that's worth watching all the way through.
Seriously, even if you had an amazing evening celebrating the arrival of 2012, I guarantee it was nothing like this.
