Tweak: Beautiful Unfold lock screen

Unfold jailbreak tweak is now available for download. It was born out of Anton Kudin’s “fold to unlock” concept for the iPhone which immediately captured attention of the jailbreak community.

Three days later, that concept has been brought to reality thanks to German jailbreak developer Jonas Gessner. What this tweak does is pretty simple yet very effective…

As the name suggests, Unfold replaces the default slide to unlock behavior on your device’s home screen with a pretty fold up animation. It’s fully compatible with other popular tweaks such as LockInfo, Camera Grabber, Bulletin and IntelliScreenX, to name a few.

It also handles notifications normally.

It just works: there are no settings to configure and no home screen icon.

The only downside is that Unfold doesn’t work on the iPad yet.

The tweak also plays nice with the iOS’ passcode security feature in that unlocking a passcode-protected device reveals the standard passcode entry screen.

Unfold is free download available on Cydia under the BigBoss repo.

‘Attacher’ allows you to open any attachment in iMessage

Attacher is an alternative to the ReceiveAny tweak that we covered previously. It allows you to open previously unsupported files directly from within iMessage.

Although you can’t use Attacher to send unsupported files, it’s still a great free solution for those cases when someone insists on sending one to you…

Once you receive a file via iMessage, you’ll notice the blue arrow button next to the attachment. Tapping this arrow will bring up a dialogue menu that will allow you to open the attachment in iFile, or any other supported app for that particular file type.

Again, Attacher won’t let you send attachments, but it’s a great solution for opening various unsupported file types. You can find it on Cydia’s ModMyi repo for free.

Tweaks: ‘Deck’ is now available on Cydia

Yes erveryone, it’s finally here: the highly anticipated centralized Action-Bar for the SpringBoard called Deck. We’ve had countless people asking us when Deck would be released, and we’re happy to finally be able to say: now.

iTweak: an upcoming alternative to Cydia

Since the jailbreak community formed sometime in late 2007, we’ve seen a number of “App Store alternatives.” I can think of Icy, Cydia, Rock Your iPhone, and Installer just off the top of our head.

Now it looks like we could soon be adding another option into the mix: iTweak. The new store describes itself as a ‘Cydia alternative’ where jailbreakers will be available to find all of their favorite tweaks, themes and utilities…

iTweakStore.com just went live with a ‘Coming Soon’ banner, and the following message:

“Welcome to iTweak! iTweak is one of the best places to get all of your Tweaks, Themes, Utilities and more on your jailbroken iPhone, iPod touch and iPad! We serve as an alternative to Cydia, and the Apple App Store.”

We’ve seen a number of promising Cydia challengers over the years that never managed to materialize, so for now we’re remaining skeptical. But if these guys can really deliver on their claims of a “fast, powerful, and easy to use” jailbreak store, we’re all for it.

There doesn’t seem to be any word on when iTweak will be open for business, but as always we’ll be sure to keep you up to date as the story develops.

Tweaks: ‘Deck’ on your HomeScreen

The Deck teaser video with a simulator preview was nice, but nothing does it justice like a little hands-on action.

A few minutes ago I was able to go one-on-one with the upcoming Deck jailbreak tweak from SBCoders.

Is it as smooth as the initial preview video? You betcha.

Deck allows you to invoke a “hotbar” from the Home screen, which allows you to access a plethora of system functions, apps, and shortcuts.

The tweak is still in beta, but as you can tell from the video, it’s running really smooth right now.

We’ll let you know as soon as it drops on Cydia, but in the meantime tell us what you think about it. Does Deck have a place reserved in your iPhone workflow?

iOSOpenDev App for Creating Jailbreak Tweaks

Last week we told you about iOSOpenDev, an app aimed at lowering the learning curve for iOS developers looking to create jailbreak tweaks. The utility allows users to develop tweaks using Apple’s own Xcode software.

As promised, iOSOpenDev is now available for download. So if you have a little bit of a background in programming, and you’re looking for a way to get into jailbreak development, you might want to check it out…

Developing Cydia tweaks doesn’t get much easier than this. iOSOpenDev includes pre-made templates for Activator listeners, SB Settings toggles, and Notification Center widgets. It will even build the project into a .deb file, so it will be ready to submit to the repository of your choice.

All you need to use the application is a Mac computer, running at least Mac OS X 10.6 or later and Xcode 4 or higher. The developer warns that iOSOpenDev is still in beta, but he believes that it’s ready for public use.

iPhone 4S Battery Improvement Tweak Proven Fake

Over the past week or so, there has been a lot talk regarding a recently-released iPhone 4S jailbreak tweak that supposedly fixes the handset’s battery problem. We’ve neglected to mention the utility here on post for a couple reasons.

One, the tweak has only been available on the insanelyi repo — a Cydia repository known for hosting pirated applications. And two, it simply sounded too good to be true…

Just as we suspected, the battery tweak has been proven to be fake. The discovery was made by iOS hackers Dustin Howett and Sam Bingner, who found that the utility was nothing more than pointless lines of code:

“There has been a lot of hype recently about a 4S ‘Battery Fix’ – DHowett found that all it does is replace /System/Library/CoreServes/powerd.bundle/com.apple.SystemPowerProfileDefaults.plist

I looked for any possible impact of this

While this sounds good… we’re changing the power settings right? The reality is that it does absolutely nothing.”

This is a prime example of why you shouldn’t install random tweaks you find on sketchy Cydia repos. While this particular utility doesn’t appear to be malicious, it very well could have been.

This is also a good example of why the jailbreak community is so powerful. The fear of dangerous apps making it into Cydia is thwarted by the fact that talented guys like Howett and Bingner are around to point them out.

"Belfry" tweak make Stock,Weather,Clock apps on your iPad

Back when the iPad launched in 2010, many people complained that it didn’t have any of the native apps found on the iPhone and iPod touch. However, a new jailbreak tweak by Ryan Petrich called Belfry is about to change that.

Belfry is a simple tweak that will install 6 stock apps on your iPad: Clock, Calculator, Compass, Voice Memos, Stocks, and Weather…

Stocks and Clock apps work in native resolution, while the rest are stuck in the infamous “2x” mode.

This tweak was released with great timing, especially now since the untethered jailbreak for iPad 2 was released last week. If you’re interested in installing Belfry on your iPad, you can get it from the Big Boss repo for free.

MobileSubstrate Updated to Fix Cydia Tweak Crashes on iOS 5.0.1 Untether

Jay Freeman (known as saurik) has pushed an update for MobileSubstrate that addresses the crashing of jailbreak tweaks from Cydia on the iOS 5.0.1 untether. Coincidentally,RedSn0w was updated this morning with a fix for MobileSubstrate crash errors as well.

Users that are jailbroken on iOS 5.0.1 can install version 0.9.3955 of MobileSubstrate now in Cydia to fix tweak crashes. Another huge perk is that MobileSubstrate no longer requires that you reboot iOS every time you install or upgrade the package.

Long-time jailbreakers know the pain of having to reboot your iOS device every time MobileSubstrate installs or upgrades itself. That is no longer the case thanks to this new version.

Users have reported that certain Cydia packages crash on the iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak, so this MobileSubstrate update should fix the issue. Saurik has also noted that Substrate is now compatible with the idea of a “semi-tethered” jailbreak, indicating the possibility of an easier jailbreaking process in the future.

"Zephyr" tweak,an Awesome Multitasking Tweak for the iPhone

Hot on the heels of the release of his popular Siri port, Spire, the infamous iOS hacker known as chpwn has released another jailbreak tweak. The utility, known as Zephyr, will change the way you switch between active apps.

The program is a two-part tweak with a focus on multitasking. Chpwn has been talking about Zephyr for several weeks, saying things like “you guys are really going to love this.” And last tonight, it finally hit the Cydia Store.

Zephyr has two major functions, the first of which allows you switch between open applications on your iPhone by swiping left or right. The utility also gives you the ability to swipe up from the bottom of your iPhone’s screen to reveal the multitasking bar.

If you’ve been looking for a way to multitask more efficiently on your iPhone, and other apps like Activator aren’t quite doing it for you, you might want to check this out. Zephyr is available on the BigBoss repo in Cydia for $2.99.

While the price might seem a bit steep for such a minimal tweak, keep in mind that chpwn has said that he plans to add gestures in the future via free updates.

SBSettings Beta for iOS 5 Exposed On Video – New Features [Video]

Without a doubt, SBSettings is the de facto must have tweak among all jailbreak tweaks for the iPhone. I think if you took a poll of 100 people, 90 of them would claim that SBSettings is the one tweak that they could not live without.

With that being said, imagine my excitement when I heard that from iDB the iOS 5 beta version of SBSettings was ready for testing! I'm would like to share with u the report that it comes with tons of new settings, and beautifully integrates into iOS 5′s Notification Center.

What to Expect From the New SBSettings

• Notification Center, and traditional Activator invocation. Both can be enabled simultaneously
• New themes, including HD themes for Retina devices
• Custom Notification Center style options

There are a few bugs that need to be squashed, mainly revolving around the power options, and the Notification Center dock option. But this is beta, and bugs are expected.

As of now, SBSettings is totally usable and functional on iOS 5 GM, and I highly recommend it to anyone running a jailbroken iOS 5 installation.
