People already in line for the new iPad

We’re all excited to get our hands on the new iPad, and with less than a week to go until its release, there really isn’t that long left to wait. In fact, it’s probably time to start queuing for the few iPads that will be available in stores.
It seems someone else has had the same idea, and believe it or not, some people are already in line outside the Regent Street Apple Store in London, England.
Remember, there is still almost a week until release day…
Slashgear reports that two young men going by the name of Ali and Zohaib are already lining outside the popular Regent Street store, in anticipation of limited iPad availability. If past Apple releases are anything to go by, they may well be wise to get in nice and early.
The pair seems well prepared, with folding chairs and plenty of layers in order to stay nice and toasty through the cold London nights.
Large queues for Apple product releases have become something of a regular event ever since the iPhone’s release back in 2007. There is something about getting in line for hours, usually in the cold, waiting to get your hands on something new. Call us mad, but we love it!

The New iPad - iPad3

Finally. After months of rumors and speculation, it’s finally here. Tim Cook has just unveiled the the new iPad. And though we feel like we’ve seen and heard enough about the device over the past few months to write a novel, none of that compares to the real deal.
As expected, the new iPad’s hardware has received some major upgrades. Sure, it might look similar to its predecessor. But when you take a peek under its hood, you can see that the iPad 3 is an entirely different animal…

The first feature announced for the new iPad is, of course, its Retina display. Just as suspected, the screen on Apple’s new tablet has a resolution of 2048 x 1536. Wow, that’s over a million pixels. 3.1 million total pixels to be exact.

Next up, the new iPad has an all new quad-core processor. Apple’s named it the A5X (weird). It’s 4X as fast as the popular Tegra 3 chipset, and should take iOS gaming to a whole new level.

The tablet is also packed with a new camera. The backside shooter is capable of taking 5MP pictures, and capturing full HD 1080p videos. But don’t let the 5MP part fool you, the system driving the camera is the same one Apple introduced in the iPhone 4S. So pictures should still turn out crystal clear.

And finally, as predicted, Apple has added 4G LTE technology to the new iPad — and not at the sake of battery life. The tablet will maintain its well-known 10 hour life point, and will be able to surf the web on LTE for 9 hours. Wow.

Here is the new iPad - TV Ad as below:

iPad 3 expected to be available March 16

We’re just one day away from the big event (U.S Time) and it things that new information is leaking by the minute. Yesterday, we heard from a reliable source that the iPad 3 might indeed be LTE capable. Today 9to5Mac reports on the availability of the iPad 3.
According to sources who have presumably be reliable in the past, 9to5Mac claims that the iPad 3 will be available in store on March 16, which falls on a Friday, a day that Apple has historically favored when launching new products…

We’ve been told by a Apple Store source who has been reliable in the past that preparations are being made for a big Apple Store event which will culminate on Friday, March 16th. Naturally, this points to an iPad 3 launch on the Friday just nine days after tomorrow’s announcement. We’ve previously noted that an Apple Store in London at the world famous Harrod’s will open on that date as well as a new Store in Houston, Texas.

Of course, until it is confirmed by Apple, these are just rumors. We’ll find out for sure tomorrow what the future holds for the iPad 3. In the meantime, make sure to read our post about what to expect from tomorrow’s iPad 3 event.

gets up close with iPad 3 parts [Video]

The entire tech world let out a sigh of relief last week when reports that Apple had sent out invites to a March 7th media event surfaced. Finally, after months of rumors and speculation, we’ll get to see Apple’s new tablet.
Can’t wait that long to see what the iPad 3 looks like? You’re in luck. The folks over at MIC gadget have gotten their hands on a number of iPad 3 parts, including its rear shell and front glass, and have put them all on video for your viewing pleasure…

The components in the clip fall in line with dozens of previous reports that the new iPad will be a bit thicker than its predecessor, but will otherwise look extremely familiar. Although iPad 2 cases aren’t expected to fit the new tablet, it appears that smart covers will work just fine.
It’s also worth noting that MIC gadget believes that the next iPad will feature Siri. We’ve heard a few whispers that Apple will be incorporating the digital assistant into the new slate, but have yet to see much evidence of that.
If you’re interested in seeing a fully-assembled iPad 3, make sure you tune into iDB next Wednesday. We’ll be providing full coverage of the media event, as well as giving our first impressions of Apple’s new tablet.

Rumors: iPad 3 will actually be called iPad HD

We know, or feel like we know, just about everything there is to know about Apple’s next tablet — except its name. Most websites, including us, have just been assuming that since it will be the third iPad, it will be called the iPad 3.
But according to Gizmodo, the new device will actually be named the iPad HD. The site points to a couple of pieces of evidence to back its claims, including third-party cases and data from web traffic analytics…
First up, the cases. Gizmodo published a photo (above) of what appears to be part listings for a Griffin case that’s compatible with Apple’s new tablet. But instead of calling it the iPad 3, the slate is clearly listed as the iPad HD. Interesting.
Even though Griffin is a prominent accessory maker for Apple products, we’re not sure it would get advance notice of an upcoming unannounced product. Specifically for this reason.
Now onto the web analytics. Aside from the part listings, the site also posted a photo of a graph showing the recent web traffic for the website iDevice.ro. Apparently, a device labeled iPad HD has been visiting the site periodically over the last several months. While there’s no way to confirm its legitimacy, the data does add a bit of weight to the theory.
Even with the above “evidence,” we’re still not convinced that Apple has named its next tablet the iPad HD. Sure, the moniker would match up well with the device’s rumored high-resolution display. But it would also go against Apple’s previous nomenclature pattern.
What do you think? What has Apple named its next tablet?

iPad 3 component photos show home button

Apple sparked a lot of controversy earlier this week when it sent out media invites to its iPad 3 event. The invitations included a photo of what most believe to be the company’s new tablet — with no Home button.
As you can imagine, this has led to a lot of speculation that Apple’s next slate will be button-less. But according to these new photos of purported iPad 3 components, that’s just not the case…
The folks over at Repair Labs have gotten their hands on what appears to be a couple of front glass and digitizer assemblies made for Apple’s new tablet. The parts look similar to, if not exactly the same as, the ones we saw surface last month.
Apple is expected to unveil the third-generation of its popular iPad line next week. The slate is said to feature a faster processor, higher quality cameras, LTE technology and yes, a home button.

iPad3 NO home button

After months of rumors, Apple finally sent out media invitations yesterday to what appears to be its highly anticipated iPad 3 event. As expected, the keynote will take place next Wednesday, March 7th in San Francisco, California.
The invites themselves, which feature a picture of what most believe to be Apple’s new tablet, have sparked some interesting conversations throughout the web as pundits attempt to identify Apple’s embedded clues.
But there’s one particular element of the photo that has everyone perplexed: where is the iPad’s Home button?
The iPad depicted in the invitation appears to be missing a Home button, leading to a lot of speculation that Apple’s next tablet won’t have one. But is the company really ready to ditch the popular feature?
Gizmodo sure seems to think so:

“Not only that, but there seems to be NO home button, which explains the mention of the “And touch.” in their invitation. How can we know? First, the photo they are showing is on portrait mode. You can’t achieve that icon spacing in the landscape mode (which is the only explanation for the lack of home button).

Moreover, the icon falls right onto the same water drop that the current iPad 2 falls while in portrait mode. The same happens with the reflection on the dock.”

So then it’s settled, right? No Home button? Not exactly. There are still a number of explanations for why we don’t see a Home button in the photo. Perhaps it’s hidden behind the user’s hand. Or maybe, despite what some are saying, the iPad is in landscape mode. You would think if it were in portrait mode, we would see page dots (you know, the dots above the dock the show you what Spring board page you’re on).
The point is, we are all likely reading way too much into the image. As MG Siegler notes, the chances of Apple leaking a major design change in one of its biggest product releases of the year via an event invitation are slim to none.
But hey, it’s fun to speculate.
What do you think, will Apple’s next tablet have a physical Home button?

iPad3 Concept Features [Video]

Aatma Studio just posted this iPad 3 concept. However, by the looks of it, we might have to wait for the iPad 5 for most of these features. The same studio has done other Apple product concepts in the past like this iPhone 5 concept. This, of course, follows Apple’s announcement days ago confirming the next-generation iPad will unveil March 7 in San Francisco. We will bring you live coverage of the event next week as it goes down.

iPad 3 thicker than iPad2 0.81mm [Photo]

Wow, there has been an onslaught of iPad 3 news this morning. Not only did Apple send out media invitations for what is expected to be its iPad 3 event, but we’ve also heard multiple reports on the new tablet.
The latest news comes from Apple.pro — a Chinese blog known for leaking information on upcoming Apple products. The site points to new photos of what it claims to be the rear shell of an iPad 3, along with some interesting details…
All of the evidence we’ve seen up to this point regarding what Apple’s new tablet will look like has pointed to two things. One, the iPad 3 will bear a striking resemblance to its predecessor. And two, it will be a tad thicker than the previous version.
These new photos echo the two theories, depicting iPad 2 and iPad 3 shells being measured. As you can see, the iPad 3, which measures in at 9.50mm, comes in 0.81mm thicker than the 8.69mm iPad 2. The consensus seems to be, however, that the difference will be almost undetectable to most users.
You might be wondering why, when the rest of the industry is trying to make their products thinner, Apple chose to make the iPad 3 thicker. The answer is simple — components. Apple obviously needed the extra room to house the larger processor, sharper display, and LTE radios.
Want to see the real thing for yourself? Make sure you tune in to #BlogAboutEverything on March 7th for complete iPad 3 event coverage.
Note: the image wrongly shows 86.9mm and 95.0mm, which is incorrect. Real size is 8.69mm and 9.5mm. We didn’t edit the image because this is not our image.

Apple unveiling iPad 3 on 7th March in San Francisco

The Verge just reported (and The Loop concurred) that Apple sent invites for that iPad 3 introduction you have waited for, likely with tingling anticipation. The presser is March 7 at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco at 10 a.m. PST. The three app icons featured on the shot hold subtle clues: The Maps icon shows an infinite loop (it is the “who,” as Apple’s address is 1 Infinite Loop); the Calendar displays Wednesday, March 7 (the “when”); and, the “what” is conveyed through the self-explanatory Keynote app icon.
This news officially exposed CNBC’s report calling for a March unveiling in New York City as grossly inaccurate. True to Apple’s form, the invite teases with an iPad close-up shot featuring a finger touching upon the Calendar icon. The tagline reads:
"We have something you really have to see. And touch."
Both the wording (“something you really have to see”) and the image (can you discern the individual pixels on iPad’s display?) would appear to confirm the long-standing rumors of an ultra high-resolution Retina Display (2048-by-1536 pixels), reportedly the key selling point of the device. Also interesting is lack of the physical home button—assuming the close-up was meant to depict iPad 3 in portrait orientation. Some fans also took to Twitter to note how Apple unmistakably sent out invites just as Eric Schmidt was delivering his Google keynote talk at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain.
Our sources expect at least three next-generation iPads possibly running a dual-core A5X chip sporting an improved graphics engine. Per Apple’s naming convention, the A5X seems to be an alleged evolution of iPad 2′s A5 processor and not a major upgrade the rumored quad-core A6 chip is expected to be. Today’s announcement also reinforces claims of near-immediate availability based on sightings of iPad shipments landing at ports of multiple countries around the world.
9to5Mac will provide live coverage of the announcements as they happen.

Rumor: iPad 3 already shipping from China

With the iPad 3 rumored to be announced in the first week of March, 9to5mac’s Mark Gurman has provided a few more tidbits about the iPad 3′s launch this evening. 9to5mac has obtained a leaked shipping document indicating that the iPad 3 has already begun shipping from China and is making its way to US airports. The document says that deliveries are set to take place March 9th.
Next, there’s word that Apple could be taking pre-orders for the iPad 3. You may recall that the iPad 2 wasn’t available for pre-order, while the original iPad was…
9to5mac says that iPad 3 pre-orders could begin as early as March 7th, or possibly a few days later.
The iPad 3 is rumored to have a Retina display, quad-core processor, upgraded cameras, LTE, and Siri support. Apple’s new tablet is also rumored to ship with iOS 5.1.
Additionally, 9to5mac reports that Apple may launch a second product in March — which is most likely to be the upgraded Apple TV we’ve been hearing about over the past few months. Most likely shipping at $99, it’s rumored to have 1080p and Bluetooth 4 support.
Lastly, the report indicates that Apple may keep around the iPad 2 at a lower price point. Apple will discontinue all of the iPad 2′s, except the black and white 16GB units, to sell them for cheaper than the iPad 3.
With these rumors dropping in, an early March launch seems like a definite reality. It’s just a matter of what date exactly, we’re waiting on. Apple should be sending out invites to their press event in the coming days.
Are you excited for the iPad 3?

MICGadget: iPad3 is thicker than iPad2 (Photo)

In their own roundup of iPad 3 rumors, MICGadget includes photos of a purported iPad 3 shell. This shell is shown in comparison to an iPad 2 back shell. Notable differences include a 1mm-1.5mm thicker design, depending on where on the iPad 3 you are measuring. Also, more tapering is shown. This will likely make the iPad 3 feel thinner than the iPad 2 while being held. While not visible in the images, the report claims the iPad 3 bezel will be slightly narrower than the iPad 2′s bezel.

MIC’s sources also point to the iPad 3 having a larger camera lens. This would mean the iPad 3 has an improved camera, but MIC is uncertain of the quality. They also include some bits such as 16GB, 32GB, and 128GB iPad 3 capacities in addition to claims of a 7 inch iPad launch later this year. We wouldn’t put too much trust in that iPad mini claim, as these smaller iPad rumors typically come and go with no success.

If you are looking to sell your iPad 2, now is the time

With Apple expected to unveil the iPad 3 on March 7th next month, it’s time to start thinking about what you’re going to do with your current tablet. As you may know, if you plan on purchasing the new iPad, you can sell your old one to help cover the cost.
For those of you that are planning on selling your current tablet, you’re going to want to put it up for sale as quick as possible. Because according to Gazelle, a popular electronics re-seller, iPad prices are at their peak right now…
Gazelle is reporting that rumors of a March-bound iPad 3, accompanied by a possible iPad 2 price drop, have made the current versions of Apple’s tablet popular trade-in items. AT&T 3G models are particularly popular because they can be used on GSM carriers worldwide.
Interestingly enough, Gazelle has also noticed a 50% increase in Android tablet trade-ins, and — get this — a 25% increase in Amazon Kindle Fire trade-ins over the last month as well.
The moral of the story is that now is the best time for you to sell your iPad. Gazelle is currently paying out $260 for 16GB iPad 2 Wi-Fi models, and $320 for 3G versions. And if you think that’s low, just wait until your tablet is another generation old.
Of course, you can get more money out of your iPad if you don’t mind selling it yourself. On eBay, for example, used iPads are bringing in at least $100 more per model than Gazelle is offering. But you can expect these prices to fall substantially by next month as well.
Do you plan on selling your current tablet to get the iPad 3?

iPad 3 to have A5X processor?

The iPad 3′s processor is assumed to be called the ‘A6′, following Apple’s recent history. The iPhone 4 has the A4 processor and both the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S have the A5 processor. The iPad 3 featuring an A6 processor makes sense.
However, according to a leaked image on Chinese forum WeiPhone, the iPad 3 will have an A5X processor, rather than A6…
The upgraded processor has been rumored to be a quad-core processor, while some publications have said dual-core.
As MacRumors points out, the code “1146″ on the A5X processor indicates that the processor was manufactured November 14th-20th. Perhaps this could be just a prototype.
The logic board looks close to the iPad 2′s, specifically around the power management chips. There’s also 16 GB flash memory chips from Hynix.
It’s not clear if Apple will use an A5X processor rather than an A6, but this leak certainly looks to indicate it. Apple is rumored to announce the iPad 3 March 7th, with a launch a few days later. The tablet is also rumored to have a Retina display, LTE chip, and upgraded cameras.
The lingering question is if the iPad 3′s processor will be dual-core or quad-core.
Do you think Apple would use an A5X processor, rather than A6?
