New JailbreakCon website now online

Last Summer marked the world’s first ever jailbreak convention, MyGreatFest. Taking place in London, UK, the conference allowed hackers, developers, and fans to hang out and talk about one of their common passions — jailbreaking.
With appearances from the Chronic Dev Team, Saurik and other notable speakers, the first conference was a resounding success. And now under its new name, JailbreakCon, the team is looking to build on that success with a USA-based event…
The new JailbreakCon (short for Jailbreak Convention) website is now online, meaning that the 2012 WWJC (World Wide Jailbreak Convention) event is becoming more of a reality. And we couldn’t be more excited.
As of right now, the JailbreakCon team is looking to hold this year’s conference in California. But nothing has been finalized yet. When and where the event is held will ultimately depend on a number of factors, including sponsorship success.
To learn more about JailbreakCon, make sure to visit the official website. You can meet the team behind the conference, and will soon be able to pick up WWJC merchandise. Interested in last year’s event? Check out our MyGreatFest roundup.
Are you excited for JailbreakCon 2012?

Dev Team Talks iPhone 5 Jailbreak and New Exploits at MyGreatFest

P0sixninja and iOPK took that stage at MyGreatFest earlier days ago,to talk about the Chronic Dev Team and jailbreaking. Chronic Dev frontman Joshua Hill (p0sixninja) had some important announcements to make, including the news that the team has found a record breaking 5 new exploits for an iPhone 5 and iPad 2 jailbreak.
The Chronic Dev Team is ready to jailbreak the iPhone 5 with the new exploits that have been discovered, and the exploits already work on the iPad 2…
The exploits that the Chronic Dev Team have found can be patched by Apple in future iOS updates, as they are not hardware-level exploits. The good news about this type of exploit is that an updated bootrom in the iPhone 5 won’t compromise the jailbreak.
Since it’s a software-level exploit, the iPhone 5 running iOS 5 should be susceptible to what the Chronic Dev Team has cooking in the exploit department. Joshua himself said, “It’s a record breaking number of exploits found.” This news reflects what we’ve already heard that the Chronic Dev Team is “actively working” on jailbreaking iOS 5.
Greenpois0n, developed by the Chronic Dev Team, was originally the only tool to provide a completely untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.2.1. Key member of the Chronic Dev Team, P0d2g, has apparently found a new exploit for iDevices running the A4 processor (iPhone 4, iPod touch 4th gen, iPad 1st gen), including multiple exploits for the iPad 2 and presumably the iPhone 5.
Joshua said that the upcoming untethered jailbreak for iOS 5 will be the “most amazing jailbreak yet,” and, assumedly, the Chronic Dev Team will be able to push out an untethered jailbreak for the iOS 5 public launch. The Chronic Dev members will obviously need the iPhone 5 in their hands before they can actually test an untethered jailbreak, but a jailbreak for the iPhone 5 will most likely be released shortly after the device’s unveiling to the public.
When it comes to the Chronic Dev Team itself, Joshua noted that funding is a huge problem. The team is trying to expand, but additional funding will be needed to continue adding more hackers to the roster. At MyGreatFest, Joshua announced “Chronic Dev Team LLC.” The team is looking for more talented hackers, and bright things are definitely in store.
You can learn more about the Chronic Dev Team on the Greenpois0n website. The team’s keynote presentation from MyGreatFest is available to download for free here.

[MyGreatFest], the World’s First Jailbreak Convention

About MyGreatFest, the world’s first jailbreak convention, earlier this year. We watched the convention progress from a dream to reality, with speakers like Saurik, P0sixninja, and other great minds from the jailbreak community slated to give presentations.
MyGreatFest starts tomorrow in London, UK at The Old Truman Brewery.  we’ve got good news: the convention will be streamed online for free!
The founder of MyGreatFest, Craig Fox (@flawlessfox), took the time to sit down with us and answer a few questions about the event as below:

Hey, Craig. Thanks for taking the time to talk with us.

Q: How are things going with MyGreatFest? You must be super busy.

Craig: Things are really heating up now as we get closer day by day. We are less than 24 hours away and people are arriving from all over the world (which is crazy to believe). I just hope we put on a good show for everyone attending.

Q: Could you elaborate on what’s going into the event? What does it take to pull something like this off?

Craig: Well, apart from the obvious, we have many talks from very prominent jailbreak devs in our community. We also have massive giveaways running throughout the day. We’ll have game tournaments and a few companies such as our sponsor www.Diabloskinz.com giving away their products and running games themselves.

Q: So, there are going to be several prominent jailbreak developers there. Interesting. Any surprise announcements we can look forward to?

Craig: I have been told quite a few things from the devs attending, especially from p0sixninja. So, I expect a few posts from you guys after the event about what’s announced.

Q: What’s the best way for those interested to follow the conference as it happens? Will there be a livestream?

Craig: Our livestream will be available for free at www.MyGreatFest.net/Stream. iPhone and iPad users can download the official Livestream app for free in the App Store to watch the event that way.

Q: Thanks so much for taking the time to chat, Craig! Congrats on MyGrestFest! We look forward to the US event next year!

Craig: Thanks a lot for the opportunity to speak again iDB, and we hope to see you in 2012 for the USA event!

Lots of interesting things are planned for MyGreatFest, and you can watch the event for free on the convention’s website. Attendees from the jailbreak community will be tweeting updates from the event as well, and iDB will be watching closely.

Since iDownloadBlog is an official sponsor of MyGreatFest, expect plenty of event coverage right here on the site. We’re looking forward to Saurik, the creator of Cydia, and P0sixninja of the Chronic-Dev Team giving their presentations. Other prominent devs, like the creator of iFile, will also be speaking.

MyGreatFest Video Intro:-

Follow @MyGreatFest on Twitter for instant updates about the convention. Craig is asking readers to tweet the #MyGreatFest hashtag on Twitter to get the event trending tomorrow during the livestream.

The folks at MyGreatFest are planning to bring the convention stateside in 2012 for MyGreatFest USA in California. We’ll give you more details on that soon.
